It is the largest brackish water lagoon in Asia and one of the most important wetland ecosystems in India. Spanning over 1,100 square kilometers, Chilika is a haven for birdwatchers, with over 160 species of migratory birds visiting during the winter months, including the Dalmatian pelican and greater flamingos.
